My friend, my neighbor:
How did it get this way? You've sustained a healthy lifestyle, not typical from our upbringings. You've stayed away from all the ill drama, all the negative things one puts into their body. You kept it healthy, honest and loving. You've been a rock for alot of people. You've taken a child (not your own) and put him under your wing, taken care of him as your own. You've raised a beautiful daughter, one who has a loving family and good circle of friends. You've enjoyed the company of your wife 4 years prior to making her your wife (of 16 years). You've seen alot Alonzo, you'll see more. Good people *always* do! Alonzo, you've have lived a modest life, never exceeding what you couldnt eat. You've worked hard to put yourself and those around you into a comfortable life, deserving. I only wish my own father were like you...
Now I see you; laying, praying, wanting it to stop. It will my man. You're on another journey. Not the type that you can bring a guest, wife, child or friends. My friend, you must make this jouney alone. Sudden. Sullen. Sad. My friend, you have my blessings. My friend, you have my thoughts.
Cancer may take away your muscular build, your figure, your strength. It may tear down what you see, it will never kill you inside. You're a strong person Zo. I wont kid you, you wont kid yourself. We both know plans are made, arrangement. Open. I will be there. People you've made a positive impact on will be there. Love ones, family, friends....we. I will do my best to comfort your family and friends. They will do their best to comfort me.
My friend, I may not see your eyes close or your thoughts fade. My friend, I may not see you in pain. My friend, I'll remmeber you how I always have; a strong healthy, wise, caring, loving and positive black man. My heart goes out to you, my thoughts go with you.
Until we meet again.
