I have things to say and data to post but now is not the time! I'm on "company" time...

Combing through 8000 + spam messages will make your eyes do funny things.

...and they hurt.

Plus I have pink-eye =(

Tonight the 412 boys are throwing the Katrina Benefit show, I'm going and plan on having a few pints with the Dr.

..and yes, it's still "all good".

until then.

Holiday spam!

I comb through 3,000 spam messages daily, sorting out legit emails and spam. Usually, after a weekend my spambox has 5-6 thousand messages - normal. Yesterday was different...

I spent most of yesterday trying to determine why. Turns out we had a "typo" in the phrase list (blacklist txt file), "don t" is not the best word to put in a filter... "don t" caused the filter to move about 300 legit emails to the spam box. messages with "don" and "t" in the subject/body got moved to the spam box. I'm suprised I didnt have more.

The worst is over, now I'm waiting for Verzion to install our 3 T1 lines...

Yep - corporate w2k server. It runs an antivirus/spam package called Sophos.

It's a good app, I've not used it prior to starting this new job. Easy to configure, easy to manage. It's Windows based so it's not hard to figure out or configure - not like samba ;-).

Basically, what happens is: mail gets scanned by sophos for phrases, urls, files/attachments and such - all mail gets pulled to a spam account - an account I've setup on a second w2k server. Once the mails downloaded I'm able to sift through the emails, legit and spam. I'm able to edit the conf files or filter files - updating the conf helps sophos distinguish between real spam and a curse word or whatever...

It sucks when I come into the office on Monday as the box constantly pulls emails. So, leaving @ 6 on Friday and returning at 9 on Monday usually gets me around 5000 spam messages to sift through.

This weekend was special as alot of spam were projects and files taht got mailed from late on Friday.

I'm soo glad it's over - I'm dreading Thanksgiving, X-Mas and New Years.

What do you use for Spam?
